Online shopping is a process of buying some goods over the internet. The stores that are offering this type of business are called the shop, e-shop, e-store, Internet shop, webshop, online store, or virtual store.

Online shopping is an electronic type of commerce that is used for business-to-business or B2B and business-to-consumer or B2C transactions. The consumers will now browse the sellers’ website. When they find something to buy they will add the item to their shopping cart. Every online store has a shopping cart on their website just like a grocery basket or pushcart in a conventional store. After that the shopper will now continue to check out. They will now enter the necessary information like the payment and delivery information. There are several online stores that allow their customer to sign up for a permanent account so that customers will only input their information once. The customers normally receive confirmation e-mail when the transaction is complete.

Many of the online shoppers use their credit card when paying. However some stores allow users to create an account with them and use the alternative mode of payment like Debit card, Various types of electronic money, Cash on delivery (C.O.D., offered by very few online stores), Cheque, Wire transfer/delivery on payment, Postal money order, PayPal, Google Checkout, Moneybookers, Reverse SMS billing to mobile phones,Gift cards, Direct Debit in some countries.

When the payment is done, delivery will now take place. Delivering the goods can be done on different ways. Download is done when a digital media like software, music, movies pr images are bought. Shipping is the method used when the product is shipped to the customers’ address. Drop shipping is the process when the item purchased passed thru the manufacturer or a third-party distributor who ships the item directly to the customer. In-store pick up is the process when the customer locates a local store and picks up the product to the nearest store.

Online shopping got a lot of advantages and disadvantages. Convenience is one of the advantages an online stores has. They are usually operating and available 24 hours. That will lessen your travel time and can buy your goods even after the normal business hours. Browsing the internet is much faster than walking to each and every line of a physical store.

The disadvantages of this is that some of the customers enjoys interacting with people than computers because they find computers complicated and hard to use. Many of the consumers are aware of how and where they can change the item if they want it changed or refunded.

Online information and reviews of the product is another advantage that you can get when shopping online. You can see a lot of reviews of the product you want that makes you decide before buying. Whereas in a physical store it will require you to physically inspect, test drive or fit the item that you wanted to buy.

With the pros and cons of online shopping it’s really up to the users on what they are going to choose.
